Platform, Our New Direction
Joe Puglia's platform outlines his goals and priorities, building trust and accountability. It defines his vision for the department and community, creating a safer and just society.
Platform
Restore the trust in our law enforcement agency community by accomplishing the following:
1. Implement a body-worn camera program for both the patrol and jail deputies.
2. Restore the morale of the men and women of HCSO by providing better pay and working conditions, particularly regarding uniforms and take-home vehicles.
3. Better utilize the Flock camera system, which was installed covertly. I will remove the "virtual bars" placed around the community of Hill 'N Dale and strategically redistribute those seven cameras around the county to expand our ability to solve crimes and locate missing persons.
4. Implement a transparent policy for the use of this technology to ensure the community that it is used in accordance with the law and does not violate anyone’s civil rights.
5. Retain our most important resources, the men and women across all aspects of the agency. This will be accomplished through open dialogue with me to work together in addressing their issues and needs to improve our delivery of law enforcement services.
6. Increase manpower to transition from a reactive to a proactive policing agency. This approach will help reduce the upward trend in crime. I plan on working closely with federal agencies to target the actual suppliers in the community, rather than just closing a house with a low-level dealer for a “photo op.”
7. Carefully review the budget to ensure we are not wasting our constituents' tax dollars, even if it means adopting an MSTU structure for accountability.
8. Immediately halt the 1% tax that is intended to fund the $300 million dollar expansion demanded by the Sheriff.
9. Operate in accordance with agency policy and state law. Hold supervisors accountable to minimize the number of lawsuits against this agency due to a lack of accountability.
10. Above all, I will uphold my oath without reservation, so help me God.
